What Instruments Do You Offer?
Between our staff we offer instruction in Guitar, Piano, Voice, Ukulele, Banjo, Mandolin, and Electric Bass. While we do not offer instruction in orchestral instrument at this time, the Milwaukie School of Guitar shares facilities with instructors for Cello, Violin, Viola and Upright Bass and we are happy to make a referral upon request.
Do I Have to Own An Instrument Before Signing Up?
Consistent regular practice is necessary to learn an instrument, so students are expected to own or have free access to their instrument of study on a daily basis. For those who have not yet purchased a guitar, bass, or ukulele, we keep a few extras around the studio that you are welcome to use during the trial lesson.
Piano students may use either acoustic pianos or digital pianos. As pianos can be much more expensive, rentals are available from vendors in the area. Michelle's Pianos in SE Portland offers monthly piano rentals with rent-to-own payment plans.
How Much Do Lessons Cost?
The rate for private lessons is $35.00 for each 30-minute session, or $60.00 for each 60-minute session.
Lessons are purchased on a month-to-month contract and can be terminated with 14 days notice.
Discounts are available for families who enroll multiple students.
Are Lessons Taught Online or in Person?
Lessons are offered in person at our downtown Milwaukie studio as well as online for most instruments.
Availability of time slots may vary by instrument.
How Often Do Lessons Take Place?
Lessons are taken weekly at a consistent time, and purchased by the calendar month. Lessons take place every week unless the lesson day falls on a major holiday, or scheduled break such as Spring Break or Thanksgiving Break. Students can view all scheduled holiday breaks through our online Student Portal platform.
Lessons are offered on a weekly schedule only. We do not offer bi-weekly, monthly, or a-la-carte scheduling.
Do You Offer Group Classes or Shared Lessons?
Shared guitar lessons (2 students) may be available for students of similar experience levels. Contact for further details.
We do not currently host group classes at this time, but intend to in the future. you are interested in group lessons, please fill out our Group Lesson Interest Form to be notified about future classes and provide input about what classes you would like to see offered in the future.
Students interested in Pre-K general music classes should contact Harmony Road Music Center, located a few miles south.
Do You Offer "Make Up Lessons?"
Enrollment creates a standing reservation which guarantees your time slot is reserved for you every week regardless of attendance.
There are no refunds or credits for missed lessons, or billing adjustments for planned absences.
However, if given advance notice, rescheduling may be an option. We offer a 9-day rescheduling window where students may shift their lesson up to four days in advance, or four days after the original lesson date. Rescheduling is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.
